Zircon U‐Pb Age Constraints on NW Himalayan Exhumation From the Laxmi Basin, Arabian Sea

چکیده

The Indus Fan, located in the Arabian Sea, contains bulk of sediment eroded from Western Himalaya and Karakoram. Scientific drilling Laxmi Basin by International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) recovered a discontinuous erosional record for River drainage dating back to at least 9.8 Ma, with single sample 15.6 Ma. We dated detrital zircon grains U-Pb geochronology reconstruct how erosion patterns changed through time. ILH postdated onset dry-wet glacial-interglacial cycles suggesting some role control. However, driven rising topography response formation thrust duplex, especially Pliocene, also played an important role, while influence Nanga Parbat Massif flux was modest.

Laxmi Ridge – A continental sliver in the Arabian Sea

Identification by Bhattacharya et al. (1994) of seafloor spreading type magnetic anomalies in the basin lying between Laxmi Ridge in the Arabian Sea and the Indian continent necessitates a change in plate tectonic reconstruction. Naini and Talwani (1982) named this basin the Eastern Basin and we will continue to use this term in this paper. Others, in the literature, have called this the Laxmi ...

Cooling history and exhumation of the nepheline syenites, NW Iran: constraints from apatite fission track

Thermal history and apatite fission-track ages were determined for the Kaleybar, Razgah and Bozqush alkaline intrusions which display Eocene-Oligocene stratigraphic age. These subduction-related intrusions are located in the Alborz-Azarbaijan magmatic belt which is characterized by a Paleogene magmatic flare-up associated with extensional/transtensional tectonism. The mean of Uranium content an...

SHRIMP zircon U–Pb age constraints on Neoproterozoic Quruqtagh diamictites in NW China

The Neoproterozoic Quruqtagh Group in the Tarim Block, NW China, contains multiple diamictites in the Bayisi, Altungol, Tereeken, and Hankalchough formations. These diamictites may represent three or possibly four discrete glaciations, although evidence for a glacial origin of the Bayisi and Altungol diamictite is ambiguous. To constrain their age and duration, we dated three volcanic beds (V1,...

Climatic control on rapid exhumation along the Southern Himalayan Front

Along the Southern Himalayan Front (SHF), areas with concentrated precipitation coincide with rapid exhumation, as indicated by young mineral cooling ages. Twenty new, young ( < 1–5 Ma) apatite fission track (AFT) ages have been obtained from the Himalayan Crystalline Core along the Sutlej Valley, NW India. The AFT ages correlate with elevation, but show no spatial relationship to tectonic stru...

Constraints on mountain building in the northeastern Tibet: Detrital zircon records from synorogenic deposits in the Yumen Basin

The Cenozoic basins and ranges form the high topography of the northeastern Tibet that resulted from the India-Eurasia collision. Sedimentary rocks in the basins provide direct insight into the exhumation history of the ranges and the tectonic processes that led to the northeastward growth of the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, we analyzed and compared detrital zircon U-Pb ages from sands of mo...
